834,651. Gas-liquid contact apparatus. MONTZ, O., [trading as MONTZ KOMM.-GES. APPARATEBAU, J.]. July 23, 1958 [July 31, 1957 ; Sept. 27, 1957], No. 23749/58. Class 55 (2). A plate forming part of a gas-liquid contact apparatus comprises a plurality of juxtaposed troughs 11 lying with their ends on supports 2, 3, 4, 5 with a hood 23 disposed over the adjacent longitudinal sides of each two adjacent troughs and over the clearance spaces 12, 16 between said adjacent longitudinal sides, and means for securing the ends of the hoods and the troughs to the supports. The securing means may comprise vertical bolts 18 mounted on the supports, e.g. by welding. Each bolt 18 may pass through both a spacing element and an end of a hood, a nut 24 preferably being engaged on the upper end of the bolt. The base portion of each bolt may be centrally disposed within channelled sections 19 so as to form a chamber 20 which is preferably filled with packing material 21. Chamber 20 may be closed by a stirrup 22 mounted on bolt 18, the thickness of stirrup 22 govering the height of head 23. The spacing elements may comprise members of transverse H-shaped cross-section (not shown) such that one H-limb is longer than the other and the cress-bar connecting them is thickened and either bored to receive bolts 18 or integrally formed with a bolt. Alternatively, the spacing elements may comprise a pair of clamps 30 (only one of which is shown in Fig. 5) which grip plate 29 forming the widened lower part of a modified bolt 18. In another modification (Fig. 7, not shown) bolts 18 may be flattened and may possess at least one slot at either or both ends and heads 23 and/or supports 2, 3, 4, 5 may possess similar slots to receive the end or ends of the bolts, each bolt being secured to either a support or a head or both by means of wedges.
