Abstract
834,532. Aircraft. GARDEN, A. D. Jan. 31, 1957, No. 36884/54. Class 4. A wing 3 or other main support aerofoil on an aircraft is divided at least partially transversley to provide spaced upper and lower portions 1, 2 one terminal end of each portion being adjacent the fuselage whereby the spaced portions provide between them at least one through passage for the passage of air, the air-flow being enhanced by applying thermal energy to the air as by a jet engine or rocket (not shown). The air flowing through the space between portions 1 and 2 is controlled by leading edge flaps 4, 5 and trailing edge flaps 6 and diverter elements 9 are provided at the rear portion of the fuselage for lateral movement about their forward edges to provide yawing control. Additionally upper and lower control vents such as 7 and 8 may be provided. In a further embodiment a straight, uncranked wing carries an inner spaced section forming a passage therebetween and another embodiment relates to a wing located at the rear end of a fuselage with a root divided portion housing a plurality of jet propulsion engines. The wings may have provision for adjusting dihedral and sweepback.
