Abstract

The invention comprises dyes and their chromium complexes which in their metal-free form are of formula <FORM:0834270/IV(c)/1> where X is H or the residue of a sulphonamide group which may be N-substituted by alkyl, hydroxy-, alkoxy- or cyclo-alkyl, aralkyl or aryl groups free from COOH or SO3H groups, and R is the residue of 1-(51,61,71,81-tetrahydro-11) -naphthyl - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone - 41 - sulphonamide which may be N-substituted as in X and also by a morpholide group. They are made by conventional diazotizing and coupling methods from appropriate anthranilic acids and pyrazolones and, if desired, with subsequent chroming in substance or on the fibre. Coupling is preferably effected in an alkaline medium. The metal-free dyes dye wool by the single bath chroming or after-chroming process in yellow shades and the complexes dye wool, silk, leather and artificial nitrogenous fibres, e.g. polyamides, also in yellow shades. The complexes also colour spinning solutions, lacquer media, oils and synthetic resins and plastics. In examples which illustrate the preparation of the dyes and their complexes and the use of both in dyeing processes, the diazo components are 2-amino-benzene-1-carboxylic acid and its 5-sulphon-and sulphonmethyl- and sulphonphenyl-amides and the N-substituents of the coupling components are H, ethyl, isopropyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 3-methoxypropyl, phenyl, morpholyl and dimethyl radicles.
