Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:0832285/IV(c)/1> wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, carboxylic acid ester or alkyl carboxylic acid ester group, R1 and R2 are hydrogen, an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group or alkylene groups linked with one another to form a ring, R3 is the radical of a diazo component, the radicals R, R1, R2 and R3 being free of sulphonic or carboxylic acid groups; and salts thereof. They are obtained by coupling diazo compounds with 1-amidino-5-pyrazolones in known manner and the resultant monoazo compounds may be converted into their salts, e.g. acetate or hydrochloride. Specified diazo components include amino-benzenes containing halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acylamino, sulphone, sulphonamide, ketonic and nitro substituents and various heterocyclic amines. Specified pyrazolones include 1 - amidino - 3 - methyl - or - phenyl-or - carboethoxy - 5 - pyrazolone, 1 - N - methyl amidino - or - N - methyl - N1 - benzylamidino-3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone and 1 - [D - 11:21-imidazolinyl - (21)] - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone hydrochloride. The dyes may be used to dye wool, silk, polyamide and polyurethane fibres, and in particular polyacrylonitrile fibres, in yellow or red shades.
