Abstract
833,426. Breaking machines. MERCOL DESCALING CO Ltd., [formerly MERCOL PRODUCTS Ltd.]. May 14, 1956. [May 16, 1955], No. 14127/55. Class 59. A machine for breaking coal, coke or other solid materials comprises a drum 10 in the form of a hollow cylinder rotatable in a clockwise direction in a casing 12 and provided with renewable teeth or spikes 15, material to be broken being fed' substantially tangentially to the drum bymeans of an inclined shoot 13, and the casing being provided with vertical and horizontal walls 16a and 14 and with a curved wall 16 on to which material partly broken by the teeth 15 is thrown so as to be further broken before falling out of the casing through an outlet 17. The wall 16 is preferably concentric with the drum 10. The drum may alternatively comprise a plurality of coaxial cylinders, fitted with renewable teeth or spikes. The peripheral velocity of the drum 10 may be varied either by altering the angular velocity of the drum or by using a drum of different diameter. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), material is fed to the inclined shoot by means of a conveyer, and a second conveyer is associated with or forms the base of the casing for traversing broken material, tending to collect under the rotating drum, to the casing outlet.
