Abstract
833,398. Regulating. FAIRCHILD ENGINE & AIRPLANE CORPORATION. Jan. 27, 1953, No. 2381/53. Classes 7(2) and 7(6) A torpedo is driven at a constant speed irrespective of depth. The propelling engine is supplied with fuel and hydrogen provided by pumps driven by the engine, and the valves regulating the hydrogen peroxide and fuel are respectively adjusted in accordance with the engine speed and ambient water pressure. As shown, the engine 5, is supplied with fuel, lubricant and hydrogen peroxide from the collapsible bags 13, 12, 14 which are subjected to water-pressure by means of the pumps 15 and 49. Fuel and hydrogen peroxide are injected by the pumps 26, 48 through valves 40 and 59 respectively, the former valve being subjected to ambient water pressure at 46 and the latter being controlled by the diaphragm 70 subjected to the output pressure of the engine driven pump 48. Preheating of the hydrogen peroxide is effected in heater 7.
