Abstract

926,109. Regulating. BLOCKTUBE CONTROLS Ltd. April 13, 1960 [June 11, 1959], No. 20031/59. Class 7(6) [Also in Group XXXII] A dash-pot 1 in a remote control means A for an engine comprises a piston 7 normally situated between two orifices 9 leading to a hydraulic reservoir 2, movement of the control in either the ahead or astern directions causing the piston immediately to block an orifice 9 so that liquid can only escape from one side of the piston to the other through a restricted passage in the wall 3 whereby rapid increases in speed are prevented. Return movement of the piston is unrestricted as valve 12, which closes a passage 11 leading to reservoir 2 upon increase in pressure in space 3, opens during the return movement. A spring-loaded lostmotion device 20, 21, Fig 5, may be interposed between the control A and dash-pot 1; on rapid movement of the control handle the parts 20, 21, are initially telescoped together, the spring 22 subsequently reasserting itself to move the piston of the dash-pot and hence the engine control member.
