[Also in Group XVI] When a box blank A, B, C, D, Fig. 18, has been folded so that a glued flap 253 underlies the panel A, the folded blank is squared by an apparatus comprising means 16, 71, Fig. 2, for advancing the folded blank through a channel 112, 112 which, at least at the outlet end 121, engages the side edges of the advancing box blank to square it before the glue has set. As shown, Figs. 2 and 5, there is a centre belt conveyer comprising an upper belt 42 and a lower belt 68 between which the folded blank is gripped and fed forwards, and two outer conveyers each comprising an upper belt 92 and a lower belt 98, Fig. 2, between which the flaps 252 of each panel A, B, C, D, are gripped and fed forward, all three conveyers moving at the same speed. The channel 112, 112 comprises two endless belts 153 each passing over end pulleys 121, 152, Fig. 9, and over intermediate idle rollers 115, the pulleys and rollers being spaced apart by a beam 113. As the belts 153 are rotated, cam action oscillates each beam 113 about the axis 119 of its associated pulley 121, such oscillation causing the belts 153 to tap the outer edges of the flaps 252. Thus, when a box blank reaches the pulleys 121, Fig. 2, which are spaced by a distance equal to the width of the box blank, the adjacent edges of panels A and D of the blank will have been aligned with each other. Shingling conveyers. As the box blanks pass out from the center conveyer belts 42, 68, Fig. 5, they drop onto a pair of shingling conveyers 174, Fig. 2, each comprising upper and lower belts 204, 212, Fig. 5, moving at a speed less than that of the center conveyer belts 42, 68, so that a shingling effect is provided. Weighted rollers 194, 203 and a pivotally mounted pulley 191, act on the panels A to hold them against the glued flaps 253. Idle rollers 221, Fig. 2, retain the box blank in squared condition whilst passing through the shingling conveyer 174. The shingled box blanks then move onto a conveyer belt 235 passing under weighted rollers 238 to give the glued joints time to dry. When the box blanks have panels A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>1</SP>, D<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 20, with flaps 270, 272, of different widths, a deflector member 275, Fig. 17, is associated with each outer conveyer 71, the deflector member having a first set of wheels 282 engaging the wider flaps 272 to deflect them downwardly so that they may be tapped by the belts 153, and a second set of wheels 285 engaging the narrower flaps 270 and urging them inwardly. To accommodate various sized box blanks, adjusting screws extend across the apparatus and into the various conveyers, channel members, &c., so that these can be displaced to various positions.
