Abstract

1477761 Adjustable box-making and stacking machine S & S CORRUGATED PAPER MACHINERY CO Inc 4 Aug 1975 [22 Nov 1974] 32507/75 Heading B5D In a machine having belts 301, 302, 313, 314 for conveying and folding a blank (B), Fig. 2 (not shown), into a flat-folded tubular box, an arrangement for stacking the flat-folded boxes and a hold-down device 450 for pressing the manufacturers joints of the boxes in the stack (92), Fig. 1 (not shown), longitudinal frames 325, 326 which carry the conveying and folding belts 301, 302, 313, 314, are laterally adjustable and linked to a block 457 which carries the hold-down device 450, by a system of cables 602, 608, 615 and 623 to ensure simultaneous and automatic lateral adjustment of the holddown device. The apparatus further includes a cutting, slotting, scoring and crushing section wherein wheels, mounted on laterally adjustable carriers 107-110, operate on a transversely scored sheet which is fed from a magazine (11), Fig. 1 (not shown), to form said blank (B). The carriers 108, 109, fixed to the longitudinal frames 325, 326, are adjustable therewith. The carriers 108, 109, with the associated longitudinal frames 325, 326, and the carriers 107, 110 are laterally adjustable by independent motors, such as 502, 503, driving adjusting screws, such as 131, 134, 567, 568, through chain and sprocket transmissions. A glue roller 311 and a back-up roller 312 co-operate to coat a glue flap of the blank. A conveyor (404), Fig. 1 (not shown), delivers the flat-folded and glued boxes between upwardly moving belts (402, 403), Fig. 1 (not shown), which convey the box upwardly to the underside of the stack (92). The hold-down device comprises an upper elongate metal slot 455 which is pivoted to a support plate 452 on the carrier block 457, and a lower member 451 which is pivotally connected to the support plate 452 by an arm 453. A pusher (401), Fig. 1 (not shown), carried by chains (406, 407), Fig. 1 (not shown), periodically removes a pile of boxes from the top of the stack.
