Abstract

In apparatus wherein individual groups of cans C are wrapped in a sleeve carton formed from a blank B as the blank and respective group are continuously moved thereof through, a plurality of tucker studs 99, which are carried on driven endless chains 89 are provided along each side of the blank/can group path (one only being shown), and are moved in synchronism with the blank and can group in a direction convergent with the said path to fold cartonreinforcing and can-retaining flaps 40-45, Fig. 3 (not shown), inwardly of folded down carton blank wall portions whilst guide elements 104, 105 support the wall portions against sideways movement. The main portions of the flaps 46- 57, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), are finally disposed beneath the can group and reinforce the formed apertures in which machine elements (not shown) subsequently engage to drive the free ends of the folded blank together to lock tabs 28-31 into openings 32-35. Subsidiary flap portions 60-71 engage the cans. The chain 89 is carried on an adjustable plate 85 tilted downwardly in both the direction of can movement, Fig. 1, and transverse to the direction of can movement, Fig. 6.
