A carton-sealing machine for applying tape to the upper and lower pairs of folded carton flaps respectively comprises a belt conveyer having two parallel spaced upper belt runs extending around driven rollers 6 and 7 at one end and around adjustably-mounted rollers (not shown) at the other end, a first sealing tape dispenser 18 disposed between the upper runs for applying a tape strip to the folded lower pair of carton flaps and consisting of a tape reel 19, adjustable pressure roller and a trip mechanism, and a vertically adjustable second sealing tape dispenser 30 located above the two upper runs for applying a tape strip to the folded upper pair of carton flaps and similarly consisting of a tape reel 31, adjustable pressure roller 32 and a trip mechanism. The trip mechanisms (not shown) are operated by the throughput cartons to cut the tapes. The second tape dispenser is mounted on a platform 23, which is vertically adjustable in slotted vertical machine sub-frames 21, 22 and carries laterally adjustable longitudinally-extending carton guide rails 33, 34 so that the machine may be adapted to accommodate variously sized cartons. Side flap folding plates 37 are mounted on the guide rails, and a tucker bar 38 is provided to fold the leading flap prior to folding of the side flaps. The belt rollers 6 and 7 are driven by an electric motor 16 through a reduction gear-box 14, and the adjustable belt rollers (not shown) permit the belt tensions of the two runs to be individually-set. Three aluminium flights 17 on each belt prevent the cartons slipping on the belts. The second dispenser may be mounted on a sub-frame, which is laterally movable with respect to the platform to seal cartons in which the upper and lower flap joints are not in vertical alignment.
