Abstract

832,192. Bedstead &c. lights. MODERN LAMPSHADES Ltd. Oct. 23, 1956 [Oct. 24, 1955], No. 30404/55. Class 75(3) A bedlight comprises a shade and a back member having means for attaching to a support and also for carrying an electric light fitting, the shade having a pair of spaced bars and the back member having oppositely facing channels or grooves to receive the bars, removal or insertion of the shade being effected by a movement of the shade in a plane parallel to the back member and a swinging movment in respect thereto. In the form shown, the back member consists of two spaced sheet metal plates 2, 3 the rear one carrying pivoted spring-pressed arms for gripping the headboard of the bed and the front one having an arm 5 for supporting an electric lamp. The shade 7 is open at the rear and consists of a wire frame suitably covered and having two parallel rigid crossbars 8, 9 which fit respectively into spaces between the plates 2, 3, stops 12, 13 in the plate 3 limiting the extent to which the rods can be inserted. In use the rod 9 is inserted in the lower space, the shade then moved upwards and swung rearwards until the rod 8 can be inserted in the upper space where it rests on the stops 12. A sheet of asbestos may be located between the plates 2, 3. In a modification, the back plate has top and bottom grooves to receive the rod, the holder for the lamp being mounted on the front of the back plate.
