Abstract
831,796. Thermal switches. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Sept. 24, 1956 [Sept. 22, 1955], No. 29202/56. Class 38 (5). A bimetallic switch suitable for protecting a motor winding against over-heating, is enclosed in a tubular metal housing 1 with the moving contact 3 mounted on a bimetal strip 22 attached to a support 2 fixed to an end cover 4 allowing good heat conduction to the strip. The fixed contact 9 is mounted on a conductor 17 passing through a glass-bead insulator 8 on a support 7. The incoming cables 15, 16 are coupled to a cap 12 and to conductor 17. The support 2 engages a screw 23 which is adjusted to set the operating temperature, after which its top is milled off and it is soldered to the tube. The cap 12, support 7, and cover 4 are interlocked with and soldered to the housing 1. An insulating washer 14 enables the switch to be push-fitted in a probe built into the winding of the motor. Figs. 1 and 3 show respective normally-open and normally-closed arrangements.
