831,169. Liquid distributers. BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V., DE. Oct. 28, 1957 [Oct. 30, 1956], No. 33612/57. Class 69 (3). A distributer for depositing a layer of bituminous material comprises a supply conduit 1 feeding a hollow cylindrical distributing head 2 provided with a slot-shaped outlet nozzle 7 extending along the whole length of the head. The amount the nozzle extends outwards from the head is such, in relation to the other dimensions of the head, that during normal operation the pressure drop across the nozzle is high relative to the pressure drop across the hollow part of the head. The nozzle outlet may be closed by an adjustable slide 14 secured to a holder 15 integral with levers 16 pivoted on fulcra 17. The levers are interconnected by a rod 18 to which a rod 19 is pivotally attached, so that by moving the rod 19 axially the slide can be swung clear of the nozzle. A heat insulating jacket is provided by walls 4, 5 spaced from the conduit and head and providing spaces 8, 9 by heat insulating material; alternatively heated fluid may be passed through those spaces or they may contain heating elements. A pump may feed the material through the apparatus, e.g. a worm gear could be arranged in the supply conduit. Preferably the nozzle and distributer head sizes are related in accordance with a particular formulµ given.
