Abstract
830,625. Photographic colour developers. ILFORD Ltd. March 26, 1958 [April 17, 1957], No. 12581/57. Class 98(2) The formation of scum due to aerial oxidation in photographic aromatic primary amino developing agent solutions containing colour couplers, is inhibited by adding to the solution hydroxylamine or a salt thereof, and ascorbic acid and/or a tetronic compound of the formula: wherein X is oxygen or an imino group and R is an aryl or substituted aryl group. The pH of the developing solutions is preferably 9 to 11.25 and may be imparted by alkali metal carbonates or mixtures of tribasic sodium phosphate and dibasic sodium phosphate. The solutions also may contain sodium hexametaphosphate. Tetronic compounds specified are 4 - phenyl-, 4 - o - sulphophenyl - and 4 - o chlorophenyl - 2 - oxytetronimides, and 4 - phenyl and 4 - o - chlorophenyl 2 - oxytetronic acids.
