Abstract

830,213. Moulding tyres &c. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Oct. 2, 1956 [Oct. 14, 1955], No. 29264/55. Class 87(2). Air is removed from a two-part mould la, lb by closing the mould parts until a member 3 engages a rubber seal 5 to close the mould to the atmosphere, and then removing the air through a pipe 9. The mould then being fully closed to mould the articles. As shown for moulding a tyre, a curing bag 16 is connected to a steam supply through a valve 15b which is moved to allow steam to flow into the bag, when the mould parts are closed. Steam is also supplied to chambers 2a. In a modification the curing bag may be replaced by an inflatable diaphragm. A vacuum chamber 13 is formed by sealing plates lla and is connected by a pipe 18 to vacuum.
