Abstract

830,176. Tower cranes. HILGERS A.G. and VOGELE A.G., J. Aug. 24, 1956 [Feb. 21, 1956], No. 26042/56. Class 78 (4). A crane for use in the construction of multistorey buildings comprises a fixed tower 1, Fig. 1, made in sections and surmounted by a tower 4 rotatable on a bearing 12, and load and counter-balance jibs 3, 2 mounted on a cage 5 movable up and down the tower by rack-andpinion or other means 8. The cage with counterbalance jib attached is first set up on a foundation A, Fig. 2, and the main hoist motor 6 is used to raise the tower 1, 4 into a vertical position. The cage 5 is then raised to the top of the tower with the load jib attached and the first floor of the building is constructed. The cage and jibs are then lowered on to the building and the climbing mechanism 8 is used to raise the tower for the insertion of an additional member 28, the cage being then raised for the construction of the next floor. For subsequent floors, no further tower members are inserted, but the base of the tower is clamped to two successive floors by clamps 24, 25, Fig. 1.
