Abstract

830,116. Diathermy apparatus. SIEMENSREINIGER-WERKE A.G. June 30, 1958 [June 28, 1957], No. 20898/58. Class 81 (2). An electrode for the application of a high frequency electric field to tissue, comprises a conductive hollow body 3 arranged to form a laminar inductance for a tank circuit and, within that body, elements 9, 10 are placed to form a capacitance for that tank circuit. The body 3 has an aperture 4 through which the material to be treated can be introduced, so as to lie between the capacitative elements. The elements 9, 10 are preferably mounted on rods 7, 8 which are connected to end faces 5, 6 of the hollow body and these rods may be adjustable in length but, in the latter case, it is necessary to provide a tunable stub in the coaxial line 11 leading to the assembly, which line is coupled to it inductively by rods 12, 13. It is also proposed to use the end walls 5, 6 alone as the capacitance. By suitably dimensioning the device it is possible to vary the proportion of surface heating to deep heating.
