Abstract

1278352 Radiation therapy apparatus SIEMENS AG 11 July 1969 [13 July 1968] 35171/ 69 Heading ASR An electrode for use with short wave therapy apparatus in the frequency range 10 to 100 Mc/s comprises a conductor loop the end portions of which are disposed opposite and closely adjacent to each other so that the electrode has low inductance and high capacitance and has a resonance frequency within the specified frequency range. The inductance comprises a sheet metal conducting loop of large conducting area and the capacitor is provided by portions of the loop disposed opposite and closely adjacent to one another. The loop may be substantially in a plane (Fig. 2). Fig. 3 shows a typical embodiment in which the loop comprises plates 6a, 7, 8, 9, 6b and the capacitor comprises plates 6b, 26, 28 on one side and parts 22, 23 connected to 6a constitute the other side. The capacitance may be varied by means of slotted plate 28 which may be moved with respect to the U-shaped plate 26 by means of screws 27. The electrode is connected to the generator by a co-axial cable which is connected to plate 8 by a metal angle piece 13 and is also connected capacitatively to parts 22, 23 by plates 16 and 17. The electrode is enclosed in a plastics housing (not shown) and closed at one end by an insulating plate 10. A magnetic field is produced through the open end of the electrode which is used to treat a patient.
