The duct of a ventilation system is provided with one or more panels which allow low frequency sound vibrations to pass through. As shown, the fan 11 supplies conditioned air to a broadcasting studio 14 by means of the duct 12 and ventilation grill 15. Thin sheets 16 of stretched rubber or steel that will allow low frequency sound to pass are let into the duct at intervals to prevent such sound being transmitted to the studio 14. When sheet steel is used, the panels are preferably arranged to have their resonant frequency or resonance nodes corresponding to the low frequency vibrations that are to be passed.
