828,431. Vacuum milking installations. ZERO MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 15, 1958, No. 5009 /58. Class 84. A milking installation comprises a vacuum supply conduit 12, teat cups 16, pipes connecting the teat cups with the vacuum, a milk receptacle B connected by conduits 18 and 20 to the vacuum, means for cooling the receptacle during milking, conduits 22 and 24 from the teat cups to the receptacle, and pipes 26 and 28 for washing liquids to the receptacle. Cooling may be effected by provision of a cold water jacket 66 for the receptacle B, and may be accelerated by operation of a stirrer 46. Vacuum is applied continuously during milking and filling of the receptacle and milk therein is cooled continuously, milking is discontinued, the vacuum is released and milk is drained from the receptacle, the vacuum is reapplied and the receptacle washed while vacuum is maintained, the vacuum is released and the receptacle drained.
