828,032. Boring-machine details. BRINEY MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 19, 1957, No. 35984/57. Class 83 (3). An axially and radially-adjustable coupling for connecting a boring-bar to a boring-machine comprises: a flanged housing 10 connectable to the machine spindle at 12 and having a bore 16; a sleeve 28 rotatable in bore 16 and having its external surface 32 slightly eccentric to its bore 30; and bearings 44, 45 fitting between the housing, the sleeve and the boring-bar. The ball-bearings are pre-stressed. In use, the boring-bar is connected to the coupling by a plug 54, which is screwed to the boring-bar and is keyed at 62 to the housing, so that the bar can be moved axially but not angularly, relatively to the housing. The sleeve, having a conicallocation surface 34, is urged towards an abutment 18 of the housing by springs 60, in recesses 58 of the plug 54. Axial adjustment is obtained by rotating a screwed collar 50 on a threaded portion 48 of the boring-bar, and radial adjustment by rotating the sleeve. The axial and radial adjustments are made independently, and locking is unnecessary due to the action of springs 60.
