Abstract

881,357. Screw-and-nut gearing. BONAMINI, N. Feb. 4, 1960, No. 3975/60. Class 80 (3). A differential screw mechanism for a lead screw 5 in a machine tool comprises a screwthreaded portion A of a bush 3, mounted on the lead screw 5, located within a screw-threaded portion B of a flanged housing 1 and an annular adjusting member 2 having internal and external screw-threaded surfaces co-operating with the portions A and B respectively, the screw-threads A and B being of the same hand but of different pitch. Rotation of the bush 3 is prevented by straight splines 4 engaging the housing 1 and the lead screw 5 is located axially within the bush 3 by an adjustable collar 6 and locking collar 7. Coarse adjustment of the lead screw 5 is effected by rotation of a hand wheel 8 secured to the end thereof. Fine axial adjustment of the lead screw is effected by rotation of the member 2 by means of a sleeve 10 which can be locked to the member 2 by a knurled screw 12.
