Abstract
A cartridge case moulded of polyethylene such as that produced by the processes described in Belgian Specifications 533,362, 534,792 and 534,888. Instead of using a moulding process to form the cartridge, the polyethylene may be produced in sheet form from which tubes are made as with paper cartridge cases. The polyethylene used has a reduced specific viscosity of at least 1.2 and preferably 2, the reduced specific viscosity being the specific viscosity corrected to zero shear gradient and divided by the concentration of the solution in grams per 100 millilitres, measured at 135 DEG C. for a solution in decalin containing 0.1 grams of the polymer in 100 millilitres of solution. The catalyst used to produce the polyethylene may be formed by mixing an organometallic compound of a metal selected from the alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, zinc, earth metals and rare earth metals with a compound of a metal selected from the metals of Group IVB, VB or VIB of the Periodic Table. This catalyst may be an organo-aluminium compound mixed with a titanium compound.
