Abstract

827,860. Electric rate-of-turn indicators; stylus arms and mountings. McSHAN, C. H. March 29, 1956 [March 31, 1955], No. 9948/56. Classes 40 (1) and 40 (2). [Also in Groups XVIII, XXXV, XXXIX and XL (c)] A turn-indicator comprises a tuning-fork 116 sustained by a tapped coil 130 wound on a core 118 and energized by a transistor amplifier 137, as shown in Figs. 9, 10 (see Groups XXXV and XL (c)). Signal generated by the displacement of the flux by the motion of the fork over the poles of core 119 is picked up on coils 132, 133. A potentiometer 144 is adjusted so that normally no signal appears at terminals 146. When the device is subject to a rate of turn, the fork is distorted so that the balance is upset and a signal depending on the modulation of the fork frequency appears at terminals 146, while the actual frequency appears at terminals 147. A gramophone pick-up arm 154, shown in Figs. 11, 13, has a soft iron armature 159 actuated by stylus 160 so as to induce currents in coils 164, 165 wound on stator poles 162. The arm 154 is non-magnetic, e.g. of phosphor bronze, and may carry a plastic damping element 158.
