Abstract
827,549. Boring earth. SOC. FRANCAISE DE CONSTRUCTION DE BENNES AUTOMATIQUES BENOTO. Nov. 30, 1956 [Dec. 9, 1955], No. 36647/56. Class 85 Earth boring apparatus has a jib 2 for removing a tube section T from a support 1 and placing it vertically on a guide plate 12 which may slide to place the section vertically over the hole being bored. When the tube section is over the hole the section is raised by a winch (not shown), the guide plate is moved to an inoperative position (Fig. 4) and the section is lowered on to the tube T<SP>1</SP> within the hole. The plate 12 has a rim 15 provided with a lock and engaging the inside of the section. The plate 12 slides within a frame 10 pivotable about axes 14, 11 so that it may be turned to a stowed position at the side of the apparatus. When the section T is positioned on the tube T<SP>1</SP> a guide on a slide C is lowered to engage the section and steady it during boring. The apparatus may be used to withdraw sections from the hole and replace them on the support, and during the later part of this operation the lower end of the sections are held by a cable running to a winch 17. In a modification the support is a trailer which carries the last mentioned winch.
