Abstract

1,070,773. Tunnelling machines. JAMES S. ROBBINS & ASSOCIATES Inc. May 11, 1964 [May 31, 1963], No. 19445/64. Heading E1F. Apparatus for positioning of tunnel lining segments during excavation of a tunnel by a tunnelling machine comprises a support 38 extending lengthwise of the tunnel to be lined, the support being preferably tubular and incorporated in the machine, one or a pair of structures 76, 82 mounted on for powered rotation about the support and provided with a boom 78 or 80 extending parallel to the axis of the support. On the or each boom is a longitudinally movable carriage radially outwards from which projects an extendable member 88 or 90 carrying an expandable means 92 or 94 for engaging and gripping lining segments. In a preferred form the extendable member comprises power-actuated linkages 150,152,174,176,186.
