Abstract
826,716. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 20, 1957 [Dec. 17, 1956], No. 36113/57. Class 112 Frames, rotating hooks. In a lock-stitch sewing-machine the needle bar reciprocates along an axis inclined at an acute angle to a plane normal to the workcarrying surface and transverse to the line of feed, the axis of rotation of the looptaker being also inclined to that plane. The loop-taker 101 is driven by an acutating shaft 114 journalled in the body 104 and driven by bevel wheels 116, 117 from the shaft 118. A snap-out cap 105, hinged to the body by a resiliently mounted hinge pin 107 carried at the end of an arm 106, may be released from its bobbin covering position by the disengagement of latches 109, when the bobbin may be withdrawn through an aperture in the work-carrying surface uncovered by the slide plate 7. Needles, shifting laterally. The needle bar is mounted for reciprocation in bearing 36, 37 provided in a needle bar carrier 40 having a stud 41 pivotally engaged with the sewing-machine head 4. A gate 66 pivoted about an eccentric bushing 26 is rocked by a link 58 pivotally connected to the gate by a pivot pin 63. The gate has a cylindrical lug 71 provided with a slide 73. The needle bar 33 passes through a hole 74 in the slide and through clearance holes 75 in the lug, the rocking motion of the gate 66 about the bushing 26 thus imparting to the needle bar and the carrier 40 an oscillation about the axis of the stud 41. The centre position of the needle is adjusted by the rotation in the head 4 of the eccentric bushing 26. Needles driving. A crank on the mainshaft is connected by a universal link to an arm on a collar 54 secured to the needle-bar 33 to reciprocate the bar. The bifurcated ends of a split arm 56 on the collar engage opposite faces on the body of the needle bar carrier 40 to prevent the needle-bar from turning. Presser-bars. The presser-bar 14 is mounted parallel to the needle-bar and is urged towards the work by a spring 19 disposed within an axial bore 20 in the bar and bearing at its upper end against a plunger 21 slidably mounted within the bore. A pressure plate 22 at the top of the plunger has an annular groove 23 engaged by an abutment rod 24 slidable within the bushing 26. An adjustment screw 32 abuts the upper end of the rod 24. Feed-bar mechanism. A feed dog 77 is mounted at one end of a feed-bar 78 pivotally connected to a rocker 79 secured to a feed advance shaft 80, feed lift motions being imparted to the dog by a crank arm 89, on the feed lift shaft, which co-opates with a fork 90 at the end of an arm 91 integral with the feed bar. Specification 808,694 is referred to.
