In a lock-stitch sewing-machine the needle bar reciprocates along an axis inclined at an acute angle to a plane normal to the workcarrying surface and transverse to the line of feed, the axis of rotation of the looptaker being also inclined to that plane. The presser-bar 14 is mounted parallel to the needle-bar and is urged towards the work by a spring 19 disposed within an axial bore 20 in the bar and bearing at its upper end against a plunger 21 slidably mounted within the bore. A pressure plate 22 at the top of the plunger has an annular groove 23 engaged by an abutment rod 24 slidable within the bushing 26. An adjustment screw 32 abuts the upper end of the rod 24. Feed-bar mechanism. A feed dog 77 is mounted at one end of a feed-bar 78 pivotally connected to a rocker 79 secured to a feed advance shaft 80, feed lift motions being imparted to the dog by a crank arm 89, on the feed lift shaft, which co-opates with a fork 90 at the end of an arm 91 integral with the feed bar.
