Abstract
Hydrocarbons containing sulphur-bearing compounds and obtained by the reaction of isoparaffins with olefins in the presence of sulphuric acid are purified by contact in the liquid phase with an alumina, an inorganic silicate or a mixture of inorganic silicates such as aluminium and/or magnesium silicates. Preferably at least 70% of the sulphuric acid is first removed. Activated alumina or bauxite containing not more than 10% by weight of water is the preferred adsorbent. The adsorbent may be p regenerated as described in Specification 826,657.
