Abstract
Zeolite having the formula 0.7-1.2 Na2O.Al2O3, 4.7-5.3 SiO2. XH2O (X is not >12, pref. 3-9) is produced by heating at 70-160 degrees C with agitation a mixture of NaOH and a cogel of aluminium hydroxide and silicon dioxide hydrogel and separating the resulting zeolite crystals from the mother liquor. The product is subsequently treated with NH4+ ions and calcined. The zeolite is esp. suitable for use as a catalyst for hydrocarbon conversion, but can also be used for adsorption, extraction, drying and ion exchange applications. It selectively absorbs n-hexane in preference to 2,3-dimethylbutane.
