Abstract
826,518. Removing sugar-beet pulp from extraction towers. JALKANEN, M. J. April 25, 1957 [Nov. 22, 1956], No. 13206/57. Class 127. [Also in Groups VIII and XXX] Upper portions of a pillar of thickened sugarbeet pulp moving upwardly in a vertical extraction tower 10 are severed successively by knives 3 secured to a rotating shaft 2, collected on the upper surfaces of ledges 15 integral with or attached to the knives and removed, through an outlet 11 in the wall of the tower into a discharge pipe 12, by a conveyer 7, e.g. a screw conveyer, as shown, or a scraping conveyer in the form of an endless belt provided with projecting scrapers. The lowest part of the conveyer may be 5 to 50 mm. above the ledges. The knives may be sector-shaped. Their cutting edges 13 are, preferably, disposed below the under surfaces of the ledges.
