Abstract

1,226,254. Extraction apparatus. CANADIAN CANE EQUIPMENT Ltd. 17 March, 1969 [21 March, 1968], No. 13849/69. Heading B1Q. [Also in Division C6] In a process for treating sugarcane and extracting the sugar therefrom (see Division C6), short lengths of semi-cylindrical rind, remaining after cane splitting, pith removal and epidermis removal operations, are treated in a water extraction unit 150 to extract the remaining sugar, this unit comprising a perforate screen type endless conveyer 154 which moves across a series of troughs 156, sugar and water solution being sprayed on to the rind on the conveyer by overhead sprays 160 each of which is located over one trough and supplied from the solution washed out of the rind and collected in the next following trough, via a respective pump P. The rind then passes to a hot water extraction unit 152 which comprises a tank (164, Fig. 18, not shown) in which is disposed an inclined endless perforate conveyer (170) transporting the rind upwardly counter to the flow of hot water supplied by an overhead spray pipe (162) and removed from the lower region (166) of the tank.
