Abstract

846,424. Orange juice and pith removing and shredding skins. KELLIE & SON Ltd., R. March 26, 1959 [March 26 1958], No. 9663/58. Class 28(2) Apparatus for use with an orange pulpingmachine e.g. as in Specification 356.997 has devices to separate the pith from the coloured skin and shredding the skin. The orange quarters pass over the pulp removing wheels 7 and down a conveyer 8 and guided by a belt 12 between a fluted roller 9 and a smooth roller 10 which pushes each skin against an adjustable knife 11 to separate the pith. The knife I is adjustable up or down by an adjuster 14 to vary the thickness of peel cut off while a screw 15 advances the blade to or from the nip of the rollers 9, 10. The coloured skin is then shredded by spaced cutter discs 19 against a smooth roller 10. A comb 20 removes the shreds which fall down to be cut by chipping knives 23 kept clear by a brush 24. A scraper blade 25 scrapes the skin oil from the smooth roller 10 into an oil tank 26 the shreds falling to a receptacle 30 while the pith falls out through a duct 29.
