Abstract
825,985. Pilot burners. ROBERTSHAWFULTON CONTROLS CO. Aug. 6, 1957 [Dec. 5, 1956], No. 24764/57. Classes 75(1) and 75(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] A combined pilot burner and thermocouple c o m - prises a tube 24 having at one end a gas outlet 32, a fitting 48 including a pair of spaced flame retainers 50, 52 engaging the outlet end of the tube 24 and a thermocouple c o m - prising a first element 28 and a second element 35 joined at their upper ends to form a hot thermojunction 36, the tube 24 surrounding the thermocouple elements and having its gas outlet 32 adjacent the hot thermojunction 36. The thermocouple element 28 is tubular and is mounted in the lower end of a bore 22 in the burner casing 10. The other thermocouple element 35 is a rod disposed within the tubular thermocouple element 28 and insulated therefrom by a sleeve 37 of fibreglass. The lower ends of the thermocouple elements are connected to inner and outer conductors in a cable 38. The fitting 48 is welded to the upper end of the thermocouple element 28 and includes three radially spaced supports 56 separating the flanges 50, 52 and defining a space 58 above the gas outlet 32. The gas tube 24 is secured to the upper end of the bore 22 in the casing 10 and is supplied with gas through a passage 20 and a nipple 14. In operation a flame is maintained at the periphery of the upper flange 50 and the heat therefrom is conducted to the hot thermojunction 36.
