Abstract

825,565. Magnetrons. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 26, 1956, No. 23149/56. Class 39(1). A magnetron with a cylindrical array of anode segments 22 has a spiral cathode 20 supported by and surrounding the ends of two posts 17, 18, and axially offset with respect to the cylindrical array. The end 19 of the post 18 is of reduced diameter, but the diameter of the main body of the post equals the outer diameter of the spiral. The cathode may be of thoriated tungsten and the posts of copper and the cathode fits the posts tightly. End portion 19 of post 18 absorbs the heat produced by returning electrons without producing secondary emission. The effective part of the cathode may be wholly within the interaction space. The envelope assembly includes ceramic cylinders coated with titanium hydride bonded together in a single operation by dipping into molten solder during evacuation. The magnetron shown is of the interdigitating anode segment type. Specification 703,656 is referred to.
