Abstract

825,205. Copy - milling; work - holders. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. May 25, 1956 [June 1, 1955], No. 15745/55. Class 83 (3). An adjustable work-support comprises a supporting platform 1 having a face to which the workpiece 2, such as a turbine-blade, can be secured, a pair of supporting members 6 pivotally connected to two spaced points on the platform, and means for moving the members independently in two directions at right-angles to one another. The platform 1 has flanges 3 and is supported on the trunnions 4, 5 by the members 6. The trunnions 5 engage blocks 15 sliding in slots in the flanges 3 to allow the platform to be tilted. Each member 6 is clamped, by a pivot 17 and nut 22, on a slide 19 adjustable vertically on a pillar 25, whereon it is clamped by a screw 27. Each pillar 25 is adjusted by a screw 32 on a plate 30, the plates 30 being secured to the table 10. Micrometers 43, 49 and dial-gauges 42, 48 are used to adjust the slides 19 and pillars 25 accurately before each traverse of the table 10 past the milling- cutter 11, the adjustments being calculated to produce a required shape. For complicated shapes, the cutter and table are moved relatively to each other during each traverse by two-dimensional servo-copying means.
