Abstract
824,855. Control of D.C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 9, 1956 [June 16, 1955], No. 14399/56. Class 38 (3). A braking system for a shunt-wound motor 10, having a field winding 12 and control rheostat 16, comprises a relay 18 which is actuated in an emergency to close contacts 18b, 18c. This causes the rheostat 16 to be shunted so that the full voltage of source L1, L2, is applied to the winding 12. At the same time, the field winding 26 of a generator 24 is energized, and the generator voltage is added to that of the source L1, L2. Thus, the field current is increased rapidly to a value above normal and the motor 10 is braked. In a modification, the generator 24 is replaced by a bridge rectifier supplied from a transformer, the rectifier being polarized to permit current-flow from the source L1, L2, through the field winding, Fig. 2 (not shown). Upon closure of contacts 18c, the rectified current is added to that derived from the source L1, L2, and passing through the field winding. Normally-closed contacts may be substituted for the contacts 18b, 18c, in which case the relay 18 is de-energized when an emergency stop is required.
