Abstract
857,911. Control of two A.C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 23, 1957 [Sept. 21, 1956], No. 29807/57. Class 38 (3). A barge is hauled in different directions by means of induction motors 1, 2, each of which has an electro-dynamic brake 16, 17, comprising windings 16a, 17a and a drum controller DC is provided for initiating operation of a selected one of the motors, the brake winding of the other motor being energized at the same time in accordance with the speed of the selected motor. When motor 2 is energized for hauling the barge downstream, a magnetic amplifier MA2 is disconnected to prevent braking of the motor 2, but the brake winding 16a for the motor 1 is energized from a magnetic amplifier MA1 which has output windings 25a, 25b, bias windings 26a, 26b and signal windings 27a, 27b. These latter control windings are supplied in accordance with the voltage drop across resistor R6-4 in the secondary circuit of the motor 2. The motor 2 starts with all the resistors effectively included in the secondary network and as the secondary current decreases with increase of speed, the output of amplifier MA1 increases to provide a greater braking torque. As the controller DC is moved to operating positions corresponding to higher speed-points for the motor 2, the magnetic amplifier MA1 is rendered ineffective to energize the brake winding 16a until the speed of the motor reaches a predetermined value, and effective to increase the brake-energization with increasing speed above that value. Adjustment of the controller DC in the " upstream " direction energizes the primary winding of the motor 1, interrupts the connections to the magnetic amplifier MA1, and causes the signal windings of the amplifier MA2 to be supplied with rectified current proportional to the secondary current of the motor 1. If a minimum braking torque is required under any operating condition, closure of switch 45 or 67 connects brake winding 16a or 17a across rectifier bridge 38. Specification 827,871 is referred to.
