824,604. Railway vehicle couplings. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTINGS CO. Feb. 28, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 6626/58. Class 103(5) A car coupling comprising a knuckle pivoted in a head 10 mounted on a hollow shank 12 has the walls of the shank thickened on the knuckle side as shown in crosssection in Fig. 2. The top and bottom walls 36, 38, Fig. 3, are also thickened progressively between a point on the shank and a critical area of stress concentration at A where the head joins the shank.
