Abstract
824,355. Extracting table jellies &c. from moulds. BIRD & SONS Ltd., A. Jan. 22, 1958 [Oct. 22, 1956], No. 32102/56. Class 87(2). A moulded article, such as a table jelly, is removed from the mould by forcing a hypodermic-type needle through the article to supply beneath it a fluid under pressure, e.g. compressed air so as to "float" it in the mould and by holding it by means of a vacuum against a member with which it is removed. The needle 5 is attached to a piston 4 reciprocable in a cylinder 3 mounted on the base plate 1 by means of the compressed air which is fed, as required, from a valve through either of the conduits 19, 20. It is only when the compressed air is fed through conduit 20 to force the needle down through the moulded article that air is also supplied through the needle, air fed through conduit 19 merely serving to retract the needle. The base plate is provided with recesses 24 connected together and with conduit 25 through which the vacuum is applied. A second valve may also be included and this serves to pass compressed air to the recesses via conduit 23 after the articles have been removed from the mould so as to release them from the base plate. In a modified form of apparatus, the cylinders 3 are inclined to the base plate so that the needles 5 enter the mould at an angle, in which case it is unnecessary to use suction to hold the article against the base plate.
