Abstract

808,834. Vacuum casting. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Aug. 18, 1955 [Sept. 3, 1954], No. 25654/54. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXII]. A method of vacuum casting comprises supporting a permeable shell mould 1 within a container 2 by permeable means 3, connecting the container with a vacuum accumulator and evacuating pump with a valve between the container and the accumulator, evacuating the accumulator with the valve closed, and subsequently opening the valve and at the same time pouring the casting material into the mould. The evacuating pump is maintained in operation during the casting operation and solidification. A collar 5, between the pouring throat 4 and the container, is formed from a viscous ceramic slurry.
