824,130. Progressive burning moulded nitrocellulose powder. KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE SPRINGSTOFFENFABRIEKEN N. V. Oct. 22, 1956 [Oct. 21, 1955], No. 32185/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 9(2) Progressive burning moulded nitrocellulose powder is made by treating said powder in an excess of a solution in 80- 100% ethanol by volume containing one or more phlegmatizing agents amounting in total to 10-21% by weight of the solution at a temperature between 35‹C. and 50‹C. for between 7 and 48 hours in the case of powder of wall thickness 0.75 mm. and in the case of a different wall thickness being about proportional to the square of the ratio of said 0.75 mm. wall thickness to said different wall thickness. The treated powder may be subjected to an after treatment such as glazing. The solvent may contain other polar solvents mixed with the ethanol e.g. methanol, 2 - propanol and higher alcohols. Specified impregnating liquids include those containing 8 to 12 parts by weight of a phthalic acid ester such as dibutyl phthalate, diphenyl phthalate, diamyl phthalate and mixtures thereof, 4 to 6 parts by weight of a centralite e.g. diethyl centralite, dimethyl centralite, ethyl methyl centralite and mixtures thereof, and 2 to 3 parts by weight of diphenylamine per 100 parts by weight of 80-100% ethanol.
