Abstract
823,120. Exhausting bulbs for electric lamps. PATENT-TREUHAND-GESELLSCHAFT FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN. Sept. 16, 1957 [Sept. 17, 1956], No. 29105/57. Class 39(2) An exhausting apparatus for lamp bulbs and the like comprises a vacuum space to which a number of bulbs are connected simultaneously and a high-speed vacuum pump, such as a Root blower, connected to the vacuum space, the pump being capable of maintaining a high vacuum during the period of insertion and removal of a bulb from the apparatus. A second pump for producing a rough vacuum may also be connected to a partitioned-off part of the vacuum chamber, each lamp head having an individual feeding space which can be connected by valves to one or other of the spaces of the vacuum chamber. In the form shown, the machine is constructed as a turret mounted to rotate on tubes 7, 19 leading from the main and auxiliary pumps 8, 14, the connection between the tubes 7, 19 and the vacuum spaces 5, 13 in the turret being sealed by rings 17. The spaces 5, 13 communicate with the feeding spaces 25 below the lamp heads 10 by valves 11, 15. A cooling baffle 21 in the form of pipe coils through which brine flows may be provided for condensing oil gases. In place of the pump 14, a reservoir may be provided for supplying gaseous filling for the bulbs.
