Abstract
823,052. Electric battery lamps. WITTE, W. Jan. 6, 1956 [Oct. 15, 1955], No. 526/56. Class 39(2) [Also in Groups XIV and XXXV] A pocket lamp or other form of portable electric lamp, comprising a casing which houses one or more accumulators 11 and a rectifier 23 whereby the accumulator may be charged through plug pins 18b, 18c from an A.C. mains supply, is provided with an internal circuit arrangement wherein a condenser 43 and a resistance 51 are connected in series with the accumulator and the rectifier 23. The resistance 51 is provided with tappings whereby the condenser can be by-passed by a lead (indicated by broken lines in Fig. 1) connected to a plug or pin 18a to enable the accumulator to be charged from the low voltage D.C. power supply of a motor vehicle. In order to protect the rectifier 23 from the harmful excess voltage when the pins are plugged into the mains socket an auxiliary rectifier 52 is connected across the points 53, 54, within the lamp housing, in series with the resistance 51. To protect a user from an electric shock on touching the pins 18b, 18c when withdrawing them from a charging socket, an internal resistance 50 is connected across them. A voltage-sensitive semi-conductor such as a resistor may be used in place of the rectifier 52.
