Abstract
822,954. Laminates; cellular cardboard &c. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI S.A.G.A. Feb. 18, 1957 [Feb. 18, 1956], No. 5506/57. Classes 96 and 140. A sound-absorbing and insulating panel comprises cavity resonators responsive to different acoustic frequencies confined between a perforated front wall and a rear wall of the panel, both walls being made of sheet material, a series of mutually inclined transverse partitions of sheet material being provided between the walls to connect them and thereby to provide the said cavity resonators of a substantially trapezoidal or triangular cross-section in a parallel arrangement such that alternately small and great bases of the successive resonators are adjacent to the perforated front wall. As shown, the two walls 10 and 11 are connected by transverse partitions 12 of sheet material defining between the walls 10 and 11 a plurality of chambers A, B, C, D, &c. Holes 13 are provided in wall 10 through which sound waves can pass into the chambers. Alternate resonators A, C, &c. have their smaller bases next to the perforated wall; whilst the remaining resonators B, D, &c. have their greater bases next to the perforated wall and are packed with a filling 14 of glass wool. The holes 13 are arranged approximately uniformly, so that resonators B, D, &c. have more openings than resonators A, C, &c., and are therefore responsive to higher frequencies. In another embodiment (not shown) the partitions 12 are replaced by a corrugated sheet having the crests of the corrugations on both sides affixed, e.g. by welding, to the walls 10 and 11. The crests welded to wall 10 are perforated, the holes registering with holes 13 in wall 10. Here again is provided a row of substantially trapezoidal resonators alternately responsive to high and low frequencies, of which the former may be filled with glass wool. The sheet material of which the panels are made may be e.g. cardboard, aluminium or synthetic resin.
