Abstract
A composition for sealing earth comprises a water glass solution containing enough of one or more carboxylic or sulphonic acid halides to neutralize 20-30% of the water glass. Halides specified are acetyl, benzoyl, benzone sulphonic acid, and o-toluene sulphonic acid chlorides. Surface active agents, e.g. condensates of alkyl phenols with ethylene oxides or alkyl aryl sulphonates; colloid stabilizers e.g. urea, sorbite, carboxymethyl cellulose, or a polyacrylate, and a buffer solution e.g. 1% of sodium carbonate may also be present. The degree of solidification of the sealing composition varies according to the concentration of the halide.
