Abstract

822,658. Window operating mechanism. DAIMLER-BENZ A. G. April 23, 1957 [April 26, 1956], No. 12938/57. Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXXV] A power-operated window opening and closing mechanism for vehicles comprises a reversible electric motor 14 with cut-out means which acts automatically when the window reaches either of its end positions, or when obstructed during its travel. The sash bar 10<SP>1</SP> of a vertically movable window 10 is connected by a nut 11 and screw spindle 12 and reduction gearing 13 to the motor 14 which is supported by a rod 15 and a spring 35 which is accommodated within a housing 16 on the underside of the motor between collars 34, 36, the lower collar 36 being supported on a shoulder 37 on the rod 15. The latter, swivelly mounted on a fixed member 22 of a door 21, extends through a bushing 43 into the body of the motor, the insulated upper end 18 of the rod 15 normally resting between two spaced pairs of spring contacts 19, 20 which are attached to an insulating block 42 and are components of a cut-out switch in the circuit of the motor. The latter is also supported by a spring tongue 23 which is attached at one end to the door 21 and at the other end to the motor 14. The tongue 23 allows axial displacement, while preventing rotation of the motor. As soon as the window encounters a limit stop, or an obstruction, the axial reaction force exerted by the drive on the motor housing moves the latter in a downward, or upward, direction depending upon whether the window is being propelled up, or down, the end 18 of the rod 15 correspondingly moving between either the contacts 19, or 20 to interrupt the motor circuit. Current is supplied to a double wound motor 14<SP>1</SP> by a battery 46, Fig. 6, and a manually operated switch 26 which is connected by leads 51, 52 to the motor. A single wound motor, Fig. 7, not shown, requires a double-pole, double-throw manually operated switch. In a modification, Fig. 8, operation of one of two push buttons 60, 60<SP>1</SP> energizes a corresponding relay 61, or 61<SP>1</SP>, the current then flowing from the battery 46 to a central contact point 62 and the inoperative second relay and then, through the corresponding pair of contacts 19 or 20, to a collecting ring 63 for the motor 14<SP>1</SP>.
