Abstract

822,440. Preparation of wood pulp. BAUER BROS. CO. Feb. 19, 1958 [March 7, 1957], No. 5445/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 96. In the production of wood pulp by mechanical or by chemi-mechanical methods, the raw wood is chipped, refined in one or more stages using rotating, abrading discs, the refined material is screened, and passed through one or more centrifugal cleaners. In one form, the rejects from screening are returned for further treatment in the second of two refiners, rejects from the centrifugal cleaner going to waste. In other forms, the chips are subjected to, e.g., sodium sulphite solution at 100 lb. per sq. inch hydrostatic pressure, after which they are drained &c. with the aid of a bin having a perforated metal bottom with conveyers for moving the chips, which then pass through a continuous screw-press before being refined &c.
