Abstract
822,203. Electric tests. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Jan. 15, 1958 [Jan. 24, 1957], No. 2617/57. Class 37. Electrical insulating material impregnated in a chamber 1 is tested by high voltage electrodes 3, 4 in the same chambers. The insulation is wound circumferentially round a spider frame 2 which is mounted on a shaft 13 through the centre of which runs a screw 11 which engages a nut 10 attached to the spider. The arrangement is that rotation of external gear 18 turns the spider while rotation of gear 17 moves it axially. Thus the insulation stretched between adjacent arms of the spider may be inserted between electrodes 3, 4, upper electrode 4 being adjustable into contact with it, tested by the application of high voltage to the electrodes, withdrawn by gear 17 and rotated to bring another part of the insulation into line with the test electrode by gear 18.
