Abstract

822,165. Hydraulic actuators. ELECTROL Inc. April 20, 1956, No. 29484/58. Divided out of 822,164. Class 69 (2). An hydraulic actuator assembly comprises a double-acting jack 131 supplied by a gear pump 130 driven by a reversible electric motor 129, the direction of rotation of the pump and the electric motor being reversed in order to reverse the jack piston 131a. A check valve 145 is interposed in the lines between the pump and the jack, operation of the pump in one direction forces liquid past a ball check 148a or 148b to one side of the jack piston, and a piston 146 is actuated to open ball-check 148b or 148a to permit exhaust of liquid from the other side of the jack. Accumulators 133, 134 and safety valves 139, 140 are provided in the lines to the jack. At each end of the stroke of the jack a limit switch is opened to stop the electric motor. In a modification, check-valve 145 is dispensed with and a solenoid-actuated shut-off valve is provided in one of the lines. The hydraulic components form a self-contained unit. The accumulators may be of the piston or diaphragm type.
